Very much enjoyed reading this article in the link above, this blast from a past life.
I wrote the first episode of Moonlighting after the pilot so, as they say, I was there in the beginning before I went off to write a couple miniseries and a bunch of movies for television.
If I may reminisce…
While the pilot he wrote was filming, Glenn Gordon Caron, the creator of the series, hauled me into his office I suspect it was because I was the only unemployed writer at the time he could find. We were acquainted through mutual friends before this.
I was a bit jealous and could not understand why he was writing pilots which did not get picked up for series going forward and would end up being no more than two-hour TV Movies and he was getting paid four times what I was for writing TV movies. But then I got to read his pilot script for Moonlighting itself. It was a revelation, a dazzling piece of film writing. It was fifty pages too long but raced along like no script I’d read before for either television or feature films, like no script I’ve read since, and came right on time.
