We have a coffee shop like you describe. Usually packed with people with laptops or with friends. Great place to "hang" out, especially for the college students in our college town. I don't think it's a tourist spot unless tourists happen to blunder onto it.
When the pandemic hit and the students had to go remote for their classes, I thought that great good place is going to die. Sure enough, late in the pandemic, it shut down.
And reopened in a spot across the street more than twice its previous size and still as comfortable as before.
They do have a tip jar so patrons can tip just for sitting there -- clear glass with a bunch of currency and coins in it.
